New service to improve access to palliative care medicines in the community
Wednesday, 1 April 2026
NHS Cheshire and Merseyside has introduced a new service on 1 April 2026 to improve access to essential palliative care medicines for residents in Cheshire and Merseyside.
Palliative care medicines are available to individuals receiving end of life care to help them manage their pain and other symptoms.
As part of the new service, a number of participating pharmacies across Cheshire and Merseyside will stock a standardised list of palliative care medicines to reduce unwarranted variation in the region.
This service replaces multiple previous services with variable stock holding across old clinical commissioning group (CCG) boundaries.
Residents and clinicians can use an interactive map on the NHS Cheshire and Merseyside website to find their nearest pharmacy holding stock of these vital medicines, or browse the list of participating sites for their area.
