Bag a booster this Black Friday
Thursday, 23 November 2023
This Black Friday, you can bag a booster as well as a bargain when you’re out Christmas shopping across Cheshire and Merseyside.
As thousands of bargain hunters hit the high street on Friday, 24 November, and throughout the weekend to grab the best deals, many will also be able to grab their top-up COVID-19 vaccine dose at one of the walk-in and pop-up vaccination sites conveniently located in and around popular shopping areas.
Over half a million seasonal vaccines have been delivered in Cheshire and Merseyside since the autumn campaign began, and in an effort to continue to keep people safe from COVID-19 heading into the winter months, NHS teams will be busy giving vaccines throughout what is expected to be one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.
Dr Linda Charles-Ozuzu, Regional Director of Commissioning and senior responsible officer for the COVID-19 vaccination programme in the North West, said:
“As we head into the winter months, traditionally a time when we are indoors more, respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, spread more easily from person to person.
“Keeping up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccinations is the best way to protect yourself, your friends and your loved ones from catching COVID-19 and potentially becoming very unwell.
“This dose is just as important as previous doses because immunity fades over time, which is why we have made it as easy as possible to get your jab this weekend, wherever you live in the North West.”
Vaccination teams will be out and about across the region, and able to offer the autumn booster to anyone who is eligible and wants to take up the offer.
Walk-in vaccines are being offered at a range of locations this Black Friday, 24 November, including:
- The Living Well bus – vaccinating everyone eligible at Cherry Tree Shopping Centre, Liscard, Wallasey, between 10.30am and 4pm
- Ryders Chemist, Old Town Lane, Formby, Merseyside – vaccinating everyone eligible age 18+, from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6.30pm.
There are also more than 7,000 walk-in appointment slots available at 74 community pharmacies across Cheshire and Merseyside, in addition to bookable appointments all Black Friday weekend at one of the many sites across the region.
People can book an appointment or find their nearest walk-in clinic at: www.cheshireandmerseyside.nhs.uk/wintervaccinations
Anyone aged 65 and over, pregnant women, those with weakened immune systems and their household contacts, unpaid carers and frontline health and social care workers are eligible for the autumn Covid vaccine.
