Health and care partners in Widnes receive national award recognition

A collaboration of health and care partners in Widnes have triumphed at this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards by taking home a sought-after national prize.

The collaborative working project, made up of several local healthcare organisations as well as global leading biopharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, received the recognition at an annual event in London on Thursday evening.

Winning in the category of ‘Most Effective Contribution to Improving Care for Those with Long-term Conditions’, the accolade is acknowledgement of the work happening in Widnes to help redesign healthcare services for patients with cardio-renal-metabolic conditions (including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease).

The project utilises the power of real-world data to drive improvements in early identification, diagnostics, intervention and service delivery.
Using patient-voice at its heart, the changes to improve diagnosis and treatment of cardio-renal-metabolic conditions continues to be a huge success for the programme – something the HSJ judging panel praised as part of the win.

Local GP and heart failure lead, Dr Henry Chan, speaks on behalf of the collaborative:

Information:

“We’re thrilled to have won this award and be recognised. Addressing the complex relationship between heart failure, type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease has been no easy task.

“This has truly been about partnership work and how we respond to patient feedback. The purpose of the programme has been about increasing efficiencies across the local health system, locking in care closer to home by further bringing our primary, community, hospital care and non-NHS support services together.

“I would like to thank all the partners involved in this project. The recognition we have received from the HSJ is a result of pure collaboration and is something which continues to benefit the local patients we see each day.”

Anna Race, Director of Health Systems Engagement and Partnerships at Boehringer Ingelheim said:

Information:

“I am delighted for the Widnes team and all those working so hard to improve the care of people living with long term cardio-renal-metabolic conditions in the northwest.

“This HSJ award recognises the strength in bringing partners together to share their skills in one collaborative working project.”

Now in its eighth year, the HSJ Partnership Awards celebrate the power of collaboration in healthcare.

Winners were selected following a rigorous two-stage judging process ahead of the awards ceremony.
