Last month, NHS England informed us of plans to significantly reduce the running costs of integrated care boards across the country by the end of the year.

We have since received further details about these plans, which are part of a broader financial recovery package aimed at freeing up more NHS funds to support frontline services.

We expect to receive a revised operating model by the end of April. This will help us to identify potential cost savings and develop a plan for how these will be implemented, which will be submitted to NHS England for approval by the end of May.

We will work with our staff and partners to implement the necessary changes in order to meet the cost reduction target by December of this year and will, of course, keep you updated throughout this process.

It is imperative that this work does not distract us from delivering for the people of Cheshire and Merseyside, however, and - with Easter around the corner - emergency services will be braced for an extremely busy period.

We can all do our part to help the NHS by ordering repeat prescriptions now to ensure they are dispensed in time, getting our spring COVID-19 vaccination if eligible, and using NHS 111 online if we need urgent medical help.

I hope you have a safe and happy Easter, and enjoy some time with your friends and family.
