Efficiency at Scale Programme
Cheshire and Merseyside Provider Collaborative’s Efficiency at Scale Programme brings Cheshire and Merseyside trusts together to address their shared challenges, delivering improvements that cannot be achieved in isolation.
Through it, economies of scale, standardisation and collaboration are used to:
- Reduce unnecessary variation across the NHS in Cheshire and Merseyside
- Deliver measurable efficiencies, improving use of resource
- Increase resilience and productivity, making services stronger
- Strengthen quality across NHS corporate services, procurement, digital optimisation and medicines optimisation
In 2025/26 the programme forecasted £14 million procurement In-Year Estimate savings, equating to £19 million Financial Year End savings.
It also achieved £10 million high-cost drugs savings and supported £20 million prescribing efficiency savings across Cheshire and Merseyside.
All of this helps to reduce health inequalities and support the levelling‑up of services across Cheshire and Merseyside, as well as strengthening the system’s long‑term financial sustainability.
This means that everyone should receive the same high-quality healthcare, wherever they live in the region, long into the future.
